Class A regional final: Peekskill vs. Oneonta

March
7

9:30 p.m – Back with some final stats. Daquan Brickhouse and Ralph Watts each had 19 points. Brickhouse also had 5 assists, 3 steals and incredibly, no turnovers.Elliot Watson had 12 points and 7 rebounds and Mookie Jones had 11 points and 3 blocks.Perhaps the stat of the game is that Peekskill had just 5 turnovers to Oneonta’s 28. Oh wait. I forgot the stat of the game is that Peekskill won by 57 points. 57?! I didn’t think the 53-point victory over Port Chester could be topped, but apparently it could.Ok, time to write my game story. I’ll be in New Paltz with Jeff Gold tomorrow for the Class B and Class C regional finals so keep it here for all the updates. Goodnight.

9:10 p.m. - Peekskill wins 89-32. Wow. Back with more stats in a little while.

9:01 p.m. – All the starters are done for the game it appears. Peekskill leads 77-28 with 4:53 remaining in the game. Time to start writing my story. This game is in the books. Matter of fact, this one has been in the books for a long time. Back with the final score.

8:55 p.m. - One last fastbreak layup by Daquan Brickhouse ended the scoring in the third with Peekskill in front 67-26. It seemed like Brickhouse never stopped laying the ball in during a quarter in which he scored 11 points. Mookie Jones is on the bench and I would assume won’t play again.

8:50 p.m. – Peekskill is ahead 60-24 with 2:12 left in the third quarter. The Red Devils continue to pour it on from every conceivable angle it seems.

8:45 p.m. – Peekskill has stretched its lead to 30 for the first time. The Red Devils lead 52-22 with 5:30 left in the third quarter.

8:30 p.m. – We’ve reached halftime and it’s looking like Kevin’s prediction will be close. Peekskill leads 42-19 after a dominant 27-11 2nd quarter. The scoring ended on a Mookie Jones two-handed dunk after Daquan Brickhouse chose to lay the ball off to his teammate instead of laying it in himself. Just a perfect example of how easy this team is making it look right now.

8:26 p.m. – More of the same. Peekskill now leads 38-16 with 1:42 to play in the first half. Brickhouse has had a couple tremendous hanging finishes and Ronnie Simmons just converted on a 3-point play.

8:19 p.m. – A quick 8-0 spurt by Peekskill in the first 2-plus minutes of the second quarter has broken this game wide open. The Red Devils are up 24-8 with 5:44 left in the first half. Elliot Watson has 8 points, including two tip-ins.

8:15 p.m. – Peekskill has stormed in front 15-8 after one quarter. The Red Devils forced Oneonta into six turnovers during the opening period. Daquan Brickhouse sat out briefly after picking up his second foul, but he is starting the second quarter on the court.

8:12 p.m. – Peekskill leads 11-6 with 1:35 left in the first. Ralph Watts leads all scorers with 5 points.

8:08 p.m. - Peekskill leads 6-3 with 3:39 left in the first quarter. Dequan Brickhouse has really been pushing the tempo to get the offense going. He fed Mookie Jones for a layup then made a fastbreak layup himself.

8:05 p.m. - Alex VanDeusen nailed a 3-pointer from the corner to start the game. Peekskill is having a hard time getting going on offense. It’s 3-2 Oneonta with 4:58 left in the first quarter.

8:01 p.m. – We’re tipping right on time. Just how I like it. Oneonta is wearing blue and Peekskill, the host, is in its white uniforms.

7:50 p.m. - Hey everyone. Alex Myers here bringing you the latest from the Class A state regional final between Peekskill and Section 4’s Oneonta. We’re about 10 minutes away from tip. The winner will head to the state final four in Glens Falls next weekend. Back in a bit.

    ... and then…

  2. sect1dowork says:

I know this may sound crazy because I think Mt Vernon is better, but if Peekskill does go undefeated and wins the feds and what not, at 29-0 is there any chance they could crack the USA today top 25? This may be a stupid question but im not really familiar with it so im just asking

  3. Poco says:

Wow, Peekskill finally cracked the MSG top 10.

  4. PHS81 says:

    sect1dowork,

Probably not. Without playing nationally ranked teams you probably don’t get there.

  5. Haywood says:

they do not play on a national level and to do that you have to play a certain amount of games away and out of state.

  6. PHS81 says:

See You All At Glens Falls Next Weekend.

  7. PHS81 says:

    Hello!? Final???

  8. sect1dowork says:

Oh alright well thanks for that. Peekskill should have definately scheduled national competition because they are definately a great team. Good luck to them in Glen Falls!

  9. PHS81 says:

    Final???

  10. j says:

I think they have too many schools that recruit out there all over the country and they would not put peekskill up there. I think the only way they would go up to the top 25 in usa today is if they play and beat a team that is already on the list and who plays a national type schedule. take st anthony’s from jersey city for example i heard that many players are from the NY area. so imagine if peekskill and mt vernon recruited from all over they would definately be there every year. better yet peekskill and mt vernon combined is definately in the top 10 in the nation. but at least us mt vernon and the peekskill fans can have true pride

  11. goeagles says:

Why does Peeksill need to run up the score like they do? Show some respect. We know you’re good.

Pressing up 30 is terrible. What goes around, comes around.

  12. peeky914 says:

...Keep Up The Good Work Boys

  13. peekfatdaddy says:

Peekskill didn’t press after the 2nd quarter and besides Watts and Brickhouse, the starters barely played the second half. Shut your mouth goeagles, you didn’t even see the game. Baseball practice has already started, go sit on the bench, I’ll be up in Glens Falls if you want to holla at me.

  14. does anyone really care says:

Is there really any interest. So dominant so no interest. Running up the score and trying to embrass teams. Whats the point. Line up now to defend the coach and team now for the run up. Sad

  15. peekfatdaddy says:

There will always be hate for the bottom feeders for the dynasties. Just like everyone hates the Yankees besides Yankee fans, everyone who can’t be a Red Devil hates them. We don’t need you suckas anyway. Root for the underdogs.

  16. PHSClass989 says:

Listen couple things, Dont hate cause Peekskill blows out teams, this is the Playoffs, and NO they dont leave the starters in after midway thru 3rd qtr, WHAT are they supposed to do, sit down and stop playing? YOU think the backups DONT want to score, alot of them being seniors and dont get the chance to play most of the season!!
As for being Nationally, Wont EVER happen, just like MT Vernon wont ever play us, especially this season in which I think we would beat them. Just take PRIDE knowing our kids are from Peekskill not Recruited from all over!!
    GO RED DEVILS!!

  17. goeagles says:

    Peekfat,

I was at the game. I saw them pressing in the 3rd Qtr. Oneonta emptied their bench before Peeksill did.

I think the subs scoring is great…for both teams, but don’t tell me I didn’t see what I saw. I don’t “hate” Peeksill they are a very good team, but needs to score some class.

  18. i know peekskill is very good. i saw them win against hayes and white plains at the slam dunk.boyh very close games .but what gives with these other section winners. what did oneonta send down to pace last night…

  19. PHS81 says:

Oneonta sent the best Class A team in section 4 to pace last night.

  20. ball says:

Peekskill had a full court press on in the 3rd quarter

  21. John Malone says:

Oneonta was a good team. Peekskill beat them the same way they beat Port Chester.

If you haven’t noticed, Peekskill absolutely cruised through the regular season and didn’t put forth the same type of effort and determination they have going right now.

They’re beating teams by 40 points since the playoffs started so it’s not just Oneonta. It’s Section 1 too. Peekskill is at another level.

J-D should still be a decent game again though.

  22. scott says:

I hope that Section 1 is watching this sad display from the Peekskill program. They should not be celebrated, they should be suspended from participating. Go play some other thug programs and leave the real high school sports to teams and communities that are mature and responsible enough to play the game with class and respect.
SHAME on the coaches, administrators, parents and players. You are the ultimate losers.

  23. joe b says:

scott….apparently you think there is a problem with PHS. The problem is people like you who go to the games to see this juggarnaut perform and then complain about it. Peekskill is on a mission and if you root for them you are happy with thier play. However if you don’t agree with what they are doing you think that you have the right to criticize them. Go back and look at some of the High School scores from the regular season. There are many blowouts so start criticizing all the other teams for thier performances. PHS play at a higher intensity level than most other teams. And to call them thugs just shows how stupid your remarks are. When Mt Vernon won by 71 pointsand Briarcliff beat Put Valley twice by 42 & 39 did you have a problem with them or is it just PHS.

  24. does anyone really care says:

    joe b

Depends on how B cliff was doing that to Put but if they were pressing in the 3rd quarter up 30 then they were just as wrong. It is not necessary it does not matter who does it

  25. does anyone really care says:

    Joe B

Peek does not play at some level of intensity higher then other teams they are just more talented and in fact do not have to press at all to win the games by large margins.

  26. scott says:

Every coach in the shot clock era can dictate the pace of play, especially up by over 30 points with superior athletes in the second half. Pass the damn ball and take off the press. Why is that so hard to understand?

One of these players on a team losing by 50 is going to do something ugly on the Court and all of the blame will be laid at the feet of your living legend Coach P.

Play the game with some class.

  27. joe b says:

Scott….Apparantly you have a problem with Coach P. You keep commenting about thier legendary coach…... and (does anybody really care) why do you really care so much ? And if you don’t think PHS plays with a greater level of intensity than anybody else, then you don’t know basketball…..Both of you guys sound like sore losers. Or just LOSERS

  28. slaphappy24 says:

Scott THUG TEAM? What kind of a negative streo-type is that? Are you mad that someone from peekskill beat you up when you were a kid? Are all urban communities like Peekskill considered a Thug community as well? Just shut your mouth and don’t talk. I would like you to go to a Peekskill game and say that to some of the fans so you could see how thug things are. GOEAGLES obviously has no clue of what the difference is between an extended matchup zone defense and a full court press. They did not press after the 2nd quarter and Peekskill emptied there bench with 5:37 left in the 3rd quarter, the only reason i know that is because i sent a text message to someone when the bench guys started coming in. SO all of you get a clue. Is this hatred because they are beating people down with no problem or because you wish you played for peekskill or your kid played for peekskill? Complain about something else besides us beating people down. The kids are having fun at doing what they do best which is play basketball. Some teams win some teams lose. WHo cares how many points that they won by. Oneonta was a great section 4 team, but as far as playing out of there league i think that they figured that they just weren’t that good. Oh Well. Good luck Peekskill in Glens Falls, se eyou next week. If any of you haters want to come and see us in Glens falls we will be in action at 10:45 Saturday morning. So come enjoy the action. LETS GO RED DEVILS!!!!!!!!

  29. does anyone really care says:

yea good one joe b don’t attack the message go after the messengers personnally, your a winner. I care because it shows a lack of sportsmanship something HS sports are suppose to project . You better look up intensity because anyone or team can project it. Peek has height and talent, including star players that transfer in and older ones above the usual age of HS players. Without that they may still in fact win but it sure helps

  30. peekfatdaddy says:

You idiots are about to make this personal. Me and Slaphappy would be happy to do that on Saturday for anyone who wants to show up and I’m sure a few hundred of my boys from the Wood will have a chance to speak with you as well. Don’t talk about stuff you have no clue about. I’m done with you suckas, see you Saturday at what should be a great game with JD. By the way, Scott and Does Anybody Care, which team were you on that Peekskill beat this year? Which one of the 25 victories were you a part of? The truth hurts.

  31. slaphappy24 says:

SLAPHAPPY24 And PEEKFATDADDY VS, SCOTT and GOEAGLES, for the world tag team championship of the world. Oh wait wrong sport, hey do you guys want to play 2 on 2 so you can get smacked at that too. We will even run up the score without a coach. Better yet we will have Mookied dad be the ref so you could tell him that his son is a thug. I don’ t think that you will win that one there turkey tits. Have a good one. Like i said we will be at Glens Falls next week section K.

  32. joe b says:

does anyone really care….Would you mind backing up your statemen about older ones above the usual age of HS players. If you can’t then shut up with your immature statementd. Because nobody really cares about what you have to say. Stick to CYO & jr high games. They don’t play with as much intensity .

  33. Slaphappy24 says:

Joe B Peekfatdaddy and i are with you on this one. We got your back. these idiots are far from reality. Like i said we got your back Joe see you in Glens falls.

  34. Fan says:

ok…..i read all these posts and its just funny how when a team starts losing…peoplse minds change…..i read these blogs all the time in the beginning of the season people werent saying 1 word about watts going to peekskill….but once people’s teams start losing, they start to try to bring teams down with them…i personally know EVERY kid on the peekskill team, and NOT ONE of them is a super senior or older then normal high school students…and the fact that some people try to take down the coach, who has a 5:1 career winning percentage, and who is in the high school basketball hall of fame, is absolutely ridiculous…when your team’s coach is more accomplished then Coach Lou Panzanaro, then you can talk….until then, sit quiet in the damn bleachers while peekskill handles its business…

  35. scott says:

Let me try and spell this out so you understand, High School sports are supposed to be about the kids and teaching that will help these young men build CHARACTER on and off the basketball floor. Beating inferior teams by large margins does nothing for developing these young men for life. The reality of the numbers are that 99% wll never play for pay, which means you better be prepat=ring these young men for the rest of their life. So your legendary COACH has done NOTHING to help these young men prepare for real life. Thankd Coach.

  36. joe b says:

scott….There you go again with that legendary coach crap. This is definitely personal. You are talking about a game kids play. And most kids want to win. The game is only 32 minutes long. So you think they should not try to score as many points as they can in that time period. I guess you never played sports because you have no concept of the game. Why do you bother you feeble little brain with all this stuff. And 99.99% dont make it to the pro level. But 100% of them have dreams.

  37. PeekFatDaddy says:

I think Scott was hung from the flagpole by his underwear when he was a kid. Maybe he’s a Peekskill kid who never made the team or he is from one those inferior teams that he talks about. One question though Scott, when you are 25-0 which team isn’t inferior? You stupid ignoramous, get a life and a ticket for Saturday, because it should be a good game, and if we blow the #2 team in the state out by 50, then you can eat your words right there. SUCKA!!!

  38. KDOG says:

As a neutral bystander who has seen many high school games and even coached many in the past I have heard enough about Coach P running up the score. Can we all remember that it is March and these are supposed to be the best teams in NY state. Peekskill is preparing to win a State title. If it means their second and third teams play with the same intensity and uder the same game plan as the first’s so be it. They need to improve as well. HAving been on the other side of the lopsided score as well I would have to look at myself and my program and say “what am I doing wrong” or “this is good for my kids” so they see what its like to get beat by a better team. THe long term goal is to be where PHS is at. I believe it’s more embarassing for a opposing coach to change what they are doing or use other methods to lower the score. I’m not saying there is not a way to improve while staying in your game. I didnot see any of these past three games. YOu can work your half court set, your zone defense, ect but never lower your intensity or the way YOU play the game of basketball. Coach P is doing what winning coaches do, coach until the game ends and does it the same way reagardless of concitions. This is why when they are in a tight game and his second or third string player has to play they can contribute without lowering the level of play. Don’t blame PHS everyone else should change what their doing.

  39. R Sr says:

What is the problem Scott can imply that Peekskill is a Thug team and The Parents of these Kids and fans shouldn’t be offended.I am and I take this very personally and would like to express that. Why he can attack our kids on a personal level and not expect a harsh reaction is not understandable.Whoever does not believe my last post should not have stayed up should contact me I’m sure you have my email I would love to know what the problem is.
